Dr. James Welch Plays Dedication Concerts on Two New Palo Alto Instruments
Dr. James Welch, internationally renowned concert organist, performed last Fall in two concerts on newly installed Roland and Rodgers instruments. In August, he performed on a Roland C330 Classic organ in a private Palo Alto residence for a group of invited guests. The Roland C330 has a small footprint but a big sound!
In October, Dr. Welch played the dedication recital on a new Rodgers installation at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Palo Alto. The instrument is a Rodgers 3-manual, Model 588. The resources of the 588 are nearly endless and Dr. Welch explored tonal colors not often heard in classical organ concerts. His musical style is very entertaining, and his musical selections are tailored to each instrument.
Each concert ended with the playing of the very popular Toccata from the 5th Symphony by Charles Marie Widor — a piece that truly tests the capability of an instrument!
